Mayor de Blasio Appoints Faith Rose to Chair Public Design Commission

NEW YORK—Mayor Bill de Blasio today appointed Faith Rose as Executive Director of the Public Design Commission. A licensed architect, Faith Rose will be charged with building on the Public Design Commission’s history of prioritizing the quality and excellence of the public realm, enhancing and streamlining the Commission’s review process, and fostering accessibility, diversity and inclusion in the City’s public buildings and spaces.

About Faith Rose: 
Faith Rose is the former Director of Design Excellence at the City’s Department of Design and Construction, where she was responsible for the development and implementation of the Design Excellence program, and oversaw the design progress of more than 200 projects, including the renovation and expansion of the Queens Museum of Art. Before joining the DDC in 2004, she worked as an architect in the private sector. Faith received her Masters of Architecture from Yale University and her Bachelor in Arts from Amherst College.

About the Public Design Commission:
New York City’s Public Design Commission reviews the construction, renovation or restoration of public buildings, such as museums and libraries; creation or rehabilitation of parks and playgrounds; and the design, installation and conservation of public artwork. The Design Commission is composed of 11 members, who serve pro bono, and includes an architect, landscape architect, painter and sculptor as well as representatives of the Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York Public Library. The Commission also acts as caretaker and curator of the City’s public art collection and maintains an extensive archive documenting the history of New York City’s public works.
