January 11: Human Trafficking Awareness Day Event:
Sex Trafficking Vulnerability Overview and Film Screenings
2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
An overview of the development of sex trafficking vulnerability, followed by 2 film screenings, both narrated by Academy-Award nominee Jessica Chastain. “I am Little Red” is an 11 minute animated film aimed at developing awareness of exploiter tactics for middle school aged children. “I am Jane Doe” follows the stories and cases of middle school girls from Boston, Seattle, and St. Louis, and the battles their mothers waged on behalf of their daughters as victims of Backpage.com, where underage girls are sold for sex.
January 12: Human Trafficking Awareness Resource Fair
11:00 pm to 3:00 pm
ACS’ first Human Trafficking Awareness Resource Fair! An opportunity to meet and network with agencies and service providers who provide services to sex and labor trafficked children (and adults). Stop by and talk with trafficking prevention experts from Federal, State and City and community agencies (see below), and pick up literature and resource information. Anonymously discuss case concerns with representatives from the ACS Investigative Consultation Program. Tabling is expected to be provided by:

January 23: Child Trafficking Database (CTDB) Train the Trainer Session
2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
An interactive walk through of ACS’ Child Trafficking Database (CTDB) for staff who can replicate the training for their areas/agencies to train others. How to access the CTDB. How to create, complete, delete,\ and print screenings. How to use the demographic charts. All attendees will receive a copy of the CTDB Reference Guide and the Training Slides.
January 24: Immigration Issues and Trafficked Youth
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Trafficking red flags specific to immigrants, common industries, how victims are lured in and kept in their situations, how to identify victims, who to contact, language issues, immigrant benefits (Continued Presence, Parole), working with minor victims in tandem with Health and Human Services, legal aspects and T-visas. Case examples provided.
January 26: Labor Trafficking: Red Flags and Action Plans
10:00 am to 1:00 pm
The International Labour Organization estimates that 24.9 million people are trafficked into forced labor. This session will cover both the global and local nature of labor trafficking in our society. You will learn what it looks like abroad and right here in NYC; who it impacts; ways that victims are lured and kept in exploitative situations; red flags and signs to recognize and identify a trafficking situation or victim; common industries where trafficking may be found; and most importantly, critical needs of the victims and survivors such as social services and legal services. Case studies in the NYC area and ethical consumerism will be discussed.
January 30: The Vulnerability of LGBTQ Youth to Commercial Sexual Exploitation
10:00 am to 1:00 pm
An overview of the extreme vulnerability of LGBTQ youth to commercial sex trafficking, focusing on understanding the etiology, developing engagement and identifying resources. Presenters hail from NYC agencies with eminent service experience.
January 31: Trauma Informed Care and Vicarious Trauma in Work with Commercially Sexually Exploited/Trafficked Children: Skills to Assist
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Goal: To understand and mitigate the impact of trauma on the commercially sexually exploited (CSE) population and on practitioners. Define & discuss trauma and its impact. Understand atypical trauma responses in CSE youth populations. Consider the impact of vulnerability in CSE youth self-identification & communication styles. Examine the role of vicarious trauma in service provision. Identify vicarious trauma & its challenges. Build realistic self-care strategies for professional practitioners.
