Joseph Ramos

Mr. Joseph M. Ramos has a long history of public service to the City of New York. Throughout his many years of service he has held various Administrative Positions within City Government, most notably as Deputy and Assistant Commissioner in both The New York City Department of Correction and the New York City Police Department, Assistant General Manager in the New York City Housing Authority and prior to his retirement, as the Director for the Empire State Development Corporation, Community Network Office in the Bronx where he was responsible for working with, all local Development Corporations, Small Business, and Economic Development Corporation. In addition, he also worked for the Office of the Bronx Borough President, where he held such positions as Director of Community Affairs, Ombudsman, and Director of Security and Inter-Governmental Affairs.

Included in his career in the Federal Government, he served as a State Program Officer for "ACTION" the agency for Domestic Volunteer Programs. He also was the Director of Youth and Adult programs for the Goddard-Riverside Community Center on Manhattan's West Side where he served for twenty years.

Although Mr. Ramos' expertise is in Program Development, Community Affairs, Interpersonal Communications skills, and economic development, his many accomplishments include and are not limited to Youth and Adult / Police Community Relations, as well as the development of many educational, health, and welfare programs throughout the city. He has served as trainer / consultant to many law enforcement departments and the New York State Division for Youth, (Gang Task Force) to name a few.

Commissioner Ramos as he is often referred to, has served in advisory capacity to many organizations, specifically placing emphasis on education, cultural and ethnic awareness, career development, economic development, community and political awareness. 

Mr. Ramos has been an Honorary/ Member of many organizations, Societies, Committees and Associations. (Too many to name). He has also been awarded numerous recognitions for his outstanding service and contributions to his community most recently in May 2018 honored as Distinguished Alumni  and in 2019 Legends Award - Run The Bronx - Bronx Community College and many other  awards  throughout the years.).

Mr. Ramos came to New York from San German, Puerto Rico, graduated from Aviation High School in New York City, received an A.A.S. from Bronx Community College, graduated from Adelphi University and attended John Jay College.  He also received a certificate from the US Department of Justice, National Institute of Correction, "Critical Issues in Prison Industries". In additional he completed a certificate program with the FBI New York Field Office Citizen's Academy. Course work included segments on federal investigations and crimes, including financial and while collar crime, asset forfeiture, organized crime, narcotics, terrorism, cybercrime , intelligence-gathering and counter-intelligence.

Commissioner Ramos, is a dynamic person who actually performed as an ACROBAT before a former  American President (Herbert Hoover) as a youth, later became the subject of three books and a documentary entitled  "Politics Con Sabor" (A collection of over sixty leaders and business, academia and the community) by Terramax Entertainment, LLC 7 Centro/Hunter College /CUNY., "The Puerto Rican 100" (A collection of micro-biographies of men and women of Puerto Rican descent who serve as role models to our communities.) by Carlos Velasquez, Galos Publishing, N.Y., "THE TUMBLEWEEDS" (Somersaulting Up And Out of The City Streets). The Impact of Commissioner Ramos' ongoing commitment and contributions toward the betterment of Youth and his personal dedication to the New York City Community can serve as an inspiration for many years to come.
