Born in New York but raised in the Bronx, Edgar Aguirre is an aspiring changemaker, hoping to learn how to effect policies which create opportunities for marginalized communities. He attended Fordham Preparatory School and received his baccalaureate from Carleton College in 2022, majoring in Economics. With his experiences with inequality and knowledge of research, he is interested in graduate study to better understand the legal and economic challenges and barriers to policy development.
Edgar was a Fall 2022 White House intern, supporting the Infrastructure Implementation Team which is responsible for ensuring that government agencies funded by the $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law are implementing their programs according to the vision of the President. While at the White House, he met various officials and was inspired to be more involved in his local community.
Through Duke University’s School of Nursing, Edgar currently works as a research assistant for a study with Bronx NYCHA (Housing Authority) residents. As a result of this work, he interacts regularly with NYCHA residents and aims to understand more about the issues affecting them.
A Council Member Velázquez nominee, Edgar was appointed to Community Board 11 in 2023.
