Edith Blitzer's Biography

Edith Blitzer (née Rosen) was born in Seidenham Hospital in the South Bronx, growing up primarily in the area of Mohegan and East Tremont Avenues. When living in the James Monroe Houses, she was the P.S. 100 PTA President. There she lead and won the fight for the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Story and Taylor Avenues. In the Houses’ Community Center, she taught children how to read.

Edith has lived at her current residence on Holland Avenue in the Pelham Parkway section of Community Board 11 since 1973. She was the President of the Beth Jacob/Beth Miriam Yeshiva, and from 2008 until January 2016, she was the Chair of the Pelham Parkway Neighborhood Association, which, under her tenure, became a 501(c)(3) organization, held and sponsored fundraisers, graffiti clean-ups, monthly meetings and other activities. In 2010, Edith was appointed to Community Board 11 as a Council Member Vacca nominee.

Edith is the proud parent of five children and nine grandchildren.
