Marcy S. Gross's Biography
Marcy Sharon Gross was born, raised and still lives in the Bronx, New York. She is the middle daughter of her third generation, American-born mother, Ruth, and Polish-born American father, Mayer, who was sent to but survived the Nazi concentration and/or extermination camps of Auschwitz, Treblinka, Buchenwald and Dachau during the Second World War.
Marcy graduated from P.S. 105, J.H.S. 127, The Bronx High School of Science, New York University and Adelphi University. She later studied network engineering and successfully helped implement Notify NYC, New York City’s official source for information about emergency events and important City services, with the Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications. In her spare time, she became a United States Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing-certified instructor, going on to teach dance at the United States Merchant Marine Academy for more than five years.
Marcy was a child when she first wrote PIX 11 News concerning social and health issues. Since college, she has always wanted to serve her community and has been a member of Community Board 11 since 2009, first serving on the Economic Development Committee and now as co-chairperson of the Health & Social Services Committee. Her participation on the Health Committee led to the creation of the Board’s first health fair in 2016.
Marcy resolutely stands behind her Hebrew heritage and has attended classes by the National Jewish Outreach Program. She insists that Jewish people need to take credit as a community and learn to stick together. Those who know Marcy are aware of her driven spirit concerning the resolution of elder-care issues in nursing homes and hospitals.
Marcy speaks Spanish, and her current day job is as a Senior Project Manager in the field of technology.
