Hazel Miura's Biography

Through her work with the Neighborhood Initiatives Development Corporation (NIDC) for more than 31 years, Hazel Miura has built a solid background in case management and tenant advocacy as well as in organizing community-based approaches to crime prevention and neighborhood revitalization, helping found the Pelham Parkway Neighborhood Association, Van Nest Neighborhood Alliance and Bronx Park East Community Association.

Aside from her work at NIDC, she has demonstrated leadership in the community by being a member of the 49th NYPD Precinct Community Council, the NYPD Auxiliary Police from 2002 to 2015, and Community Board 11 from 1995 to 2012 and 2019 until present.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Hazel has lived in CB11 since 1986 and is fluent in both Spanish and Spanglish. In 1989, she became a member of the original Bronx Park East Neighborhood Association and has been involved in community work since.
