Ryan Barthel moved to the Allerton section of Community Board 11 in 2016 while pursuing master’s degrees in economics and international political economy and development at Fordham University. Originally from Ohio, he served in the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso from 2009 to 2011, after he began an unsatisfying career in the private sector. Since then, he has had stints in home renovation, facilities/maintenance, research on New York City schools for New York University, research and testing administration for Yonkers Public Schools, and now as a data manager for the Research Foundation of The City University of New York.
Staunch supporters of public education and transportation, Ryan, his spouse and two children enjoy taking advantage of the parks and cultural attractions in our neighborhood and city. An avid cyclist, he is often out and about by bike, rain or shine. He dreams of the day when he and his family can safely share the streets with others and strives to use his voice on the Community Board to promote a safer and healthier place for all of us to live, work and play.
