Solar Energy: Allowable Work Without A Registered Design Professional Submitting Construction Documents For Department Approval

Permits are tied to the project’s scope of work and work type, and the permits are regulated according to the nature of the work, licensing, and registration requirements for the work being performed.

Certain solar electrical work, such as electrical repairs to an existing solar system, can be performed by an appropriate Licensed Electrical Contractor without input from a Registered Design Professional. The Licensed Electrical Contractor shall be licensed in New York City and therefore, authorized to perform such work and obtain permits.
