Work you can do without a permit, Licensed Contractor, or Registered Design Professional
No Builders Pavement Plan (BPP) work can be performed without a Registered Design Professional submitting drawings and obtaining approval, and without a Licensed Contractor obtaining a permit from the Department of Transportation (DOT).
No BPP work can be performed without a Registered Design Professional obtaining approval, and without a Licensed Contractor obtaining permits from the Department and/or the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Please note sidewalk repair work less than 25 square feet (sf), where the purpose is not to remove a violation, does not require a DOT permit per Title 34 DOT Highway Rules Section 2-09. Such minor repair work is comparable to an ordinary repair as described in AC 28-105.4.2.
No BPP work requiring a permit can be performed by a Licensed Contractor without the owner first hiring a Registered Design Professional to prepare and submit construction plans to the Department. A Licensed Contractor may directly obtain a permit from the Department of Transportation for minor repair work such as reconstruction or repair of a sidewalk where the purpose of the work is to remove a violation.
A Registered Design Professional or Landscape Architect must submit construction plans for approval by the Department in order to obtain a work permit, including all necessary details as dictated by DOT requirements and guidelines. Permits are generally tied to scope of work and work type, and are regulated according to the nature of the work, licensing, and registration requirements.
