Older Americans Month Celebration at Gracie Mansion

On May 4th, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams hosted a reception at Gracie Mansion for the philanthropic community who support aging organizations throughout New York City. While also celebrating Older Americans Month, the event was an opportunity to showcase the many great achievements of the Cabinet for Older New Yorkers.

In less than eight months, the Cabinet has already successfully implemented a number of interagency projects specifically designed to improve the lives of the 1.7 million older adults who call New York City “home.” These include (1) intergenerational roundtables with older adult center members and Department of Youth and Community Development participants to help bridge the gap between generations; (2) an anti-ageism high school resource guide; (3) aging-focused trainings for healthcare and hospital workers in partnership with Health and Hospitals, and (4) walkability audits to inform the Department of Transportation’s ongoing commitment to safety and accessibility.

The Cabinet continues to build on its ongoing work and its deep commitment to ensuring New York remains a model age-inclusive city that its residents deserve. To watch the full program, please click here.
