NEW YORK, N.Y., September 29 – This month, NYC Census 2020’s multi-borough “Countdown to our Future” campaign will engage in approximately 100 events and activities in partnership with elected officials and community organizations to promote the census and provide census form assistance in several languages. Outreach includes a new “Count The Heroes” campaign, which aims to boost response rates among the healthcare workers who have kept New York safe and functioning throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. “Count the Heroes” includes a special focus on NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public health care system in the United States, which served communities across the city in need during the COVID-19 crisis.
Media must RSVP to Sona Rai at srai@census.nyc.gov to attend and cover select public events. Additional events will be advised in the coming days.
Currently the Trump Administration continues to interfere with the census count. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross most recently announced October 5 as a “target date” for ending all 2020 Census efforts, in defiance of the U.S. Northern District of California's 2020 Census ruling, which restored the October 31, 2020 census count deadline. The Trump administration has also appealed the U.S. Northern District of California's 2020 Census ruling, which restored the October 31, 2020 census count deadline. NYC Census 2020 and its partners will continue to mobilize to ensure that every New Yorker is counted right away.
