(Long Island City, NY – January 27, 2025) The agency that builds for the City is hiring summer interns!

The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC)—which builds the City’s essential infrastructure from water mains to coastal resiliency programs, as well as public buildings from firehouses to health clinics—is accepting applications from college and grad students for its 2025 summer paid internship program. DDC will also hold a hiring event at the agency’s main offices at 30-30 Thomson Avenue in Long Island City on February 5, 2025.

“Each year, DDC welcomes a new class of motivated students for its 10-week paid internship offering experience and professional mentoring in technical and engineering fields,” said DDC Commissioner Thomas Foley. “Students interested in STEM will have the chance to work with DDC professionals who manage a $33 billion portfolio of incredible projects that affect every neighborhood in the City. Each intern will be paired with a mentor and will see all sides of active DDC projects, both in the office and on-site. This is a great opportunity and we have many former interns working full-time at DDC today.”

DDC’s Summer Internship Program is an excellent opportunity for students interested in the architecture, engineering, design, construction management, safety, and project controls professions to gain valuable experience within a public service context. Students will gain hands-on technical experience through a combination of seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training, to learn about the challenges of upgrading and constructing the City’s public buildings and street infrastructure.

The program runs from June 2, 2025 to August 8, 2025. To apply, undergraduate students must be matriculated in an accredited college or be recent college graduates (winter/spring term of the program year). Graduate students must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in an accredited college, university, or law school. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2025. Click here for more information.

On February 5, 2025, DDC will host a Hiring Fair at 30-30 Thomson Avenue in the multi-purpose room from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Hiring Fair will focus on recruiting candidates who applied for the recently offered Civil Engineering Intern Exam and recruiting current college students for the 2025 Summer Internship Program. Applicants are encouraged to email their resume to DDCRecruitment@ddc.nyc.gov by January 29th to register for the event.
