The company seeks a variance from Section 24-163 of the New York City Air Pollution Control Code on the basis of its business needs for security, as an armored truck company. As part of its variance application, Brinks proposes to reduce idling by electrifying 35 of the 72 vehicles, equivalent to 49% of the fossil fuel-powered medium duty armored vehicles in its NYC fleet, by the end of 2024. In addition, the remaining 37 vehicles will be equipped with anti-idling technologies by the beginning of 2025.
