DEPUTY MAYOR DAUGHTRY AND COMMISSIONER MAGINLEY-LIDDIE WELCOME MORE THAN 100 NEW CORRECTION OFFICERS TO THE DEPARTMENT
Graduation Ceremony Will Also Celebrate Promotion of 13 Deputy Wardens, One Warden and the Appointment of New Members of Senior Leadership
EAST ELMHURST, NY – New York City Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry and Department of Correction Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie will preside over a graduation ceremony for 103 new correction officers and a promotion ceremony for 13 deputy wardens on Friday, March 21 at 10:00 AM at Queens College’s Kupferberg Center. The event will also feature the swearing-in and appointments of new senior agency leaders.
“I am so proud to welcome a new class of dedicated, skilled officers into our Bold family,” said NYC Correction Commissioner Maginley-Liddie. “The members of service entering or rising in the department are joining a legacy of outstanding leaders who have promoted safety through supervision and mentorship for 130 years. Every single member of service taking an oath is a force for change for the people in our city, and I thank them for their commitment to our mission.”
The 13-week training program was carried out at the NYPD’s state-of-the-art training facility in College Point, Queens and the Correction Academy in Middle Village, Queens. The new correction officer recruits will now receive an additional eight weeks of field training inside New York City jails – in conjunction with veteran field training officers – where they will obtain critical hands-on experience.
The newly promoted deputy wardens completed a ten-day intensive foundational training followed by a 12-month academy training program with bimonthly two-day workshops. This culminated in an integrated capstone project, allowing the new deputy wardens to apply learned concepts and national best practices to real-world facility challenges and to address critical areas of concern identified by participants and the agency.
