The Boldest Family Celebrates the Holiday Season

Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie, the Executive Leadership Team, faith leaders and union officials led the celebration on Rikers Island.

The rainy skies on Dec. 16 were shining with light and love from The Boldest family as the Department hosted its Annual Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony on Rikers Island.

This year’s festivities featured blessings from faith leaders, caroling, live steelpan music, lots of DOC camaraderie and more in celebration of the 2024 holiday season.

On behalf of the Department, Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie also thanked The Boldest for their exemplary commitment to public safety, especially during the holidays when they will be protecting and serving in city jails.

This year’s celebration of the holiday season features decorations throughout Rikers Island including festive lights on the bridge.

“Our annual holiday lighting gives me a chance as your commissioner to show you how much you mean to all of us here in the Department. You are dedicated DOC heroes who will once again be spending another holiday season away from your families and loved ones as you continue to keep all New Yorkers safe,” the Commissioner said. “I hope that when you drive onto the island and see this tree lit, you see it as a symbol of the deep respect and gratitude my leadership team and I have for you and all you do each and every single day throughout this season and throughout the year.”
