The NYC Poison Center holds a monthly Consultants’ Conference to educate providers about notable toxicologic cases. The conferences are a key feature of the Center’s role as a research and professional education center for toxicologists, fellows, residents, medical students and other health professionals from around the world. Conferences are jointly provided by the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the NYC Poison Center.
Consultants’ Conferences provide an opportunity for medical toxicologists, emergency physicians, pharmacists and other providers to learn about the diagnosis and treatment of notable toxicologic cases from renowned experts in various specialties. These consultants offer insight into the analysis and approach to diagnosis and treatment. The cases are typically presented by NYU Toxicology fellows-in-training, but anyone can present cases that are deemed appropriate.
Immediately preceding each Consultants Conference, the NYC Poison Center hosts Grand Rounds lectures with visiting toxicology and emergency medicine faculty from around the world. To watch recordings of previous Grand Rounds, visit our YouTube.
The conferences and our other professional education initiatives seek to integrate pharmacology, toxicology, pathophysiology and clinical medicine. We aim to study and treat intentional and unintentional exposure to pharmaceuticals, drugs of abuse, industrial and hazardous materials, environmental chemicals, plant toxins and animal venoms.
Consultants’ Conferences and Grand Rounds are always held on the first Thursday of each month. Grand Rounds occurs from 1 to 2 p.m.; Consultants’ Conference follows immediately from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Conferences are hosted jointly through WebEx and in person at the Public Health Laboratory (455 First Avenue, Ground Floor Auditorium, New York, NY 10016).
