NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act requires manufacturers of certain items to provide free and convenient recycling of electronic waste to consumers in New York State. NYC residents can also visit electronic waste collection sites and events throughout the city. You may want to call before visiting to make sure they are open and accepting the particular type or brand of equipment you are trying to get rid of.

If you have a problem with a manufacturer that is required to accept electronics under NYS's Electronic Waste Acceptance Programs or a store which sells electronics but doesn't have information about electronics recycling, report the company to NYSDEC online or call (800) 847-7332.
