NYC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RELEASES 2022-2026 STRATEGIC PLAN

Report provides agency's goals for the next four years

New 'Prep Talk' podcast highlights strategic plan and priorities

June 28, 2022 — The New York City Emergency Management Department today released its 2022-2026 strategic plan, which highlights the agency's vision and key priorities through 2026.

"Our emergency managers are facing more frequent and complex disasters due to climate change, social and economic inequity, aging infrastructure, cyber threats, and domestic terrorism. We must better prepare for the expanding threat landscape as it poses a number of social, economic, and environmental impacts on our city and its communities," writes NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol. "In this [strategic plan], we outline our goals to foster an agile and scalable emergency management capability that responds to new and worsening threats; prioritizes equity practices; and reaches all New Yorkers through trusted organizations and communication channels."

"The threats to New York City are constantly evolving — from climate change to cyber security, to a global pandemic, we must be ready on multiple fronts to keep our city safe," said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. "New York City Emergency Management's strategic plan lays out how we will prepare for, respond to, and recover from these novel threats to build a safer city for all."

In line with the release of the report, NYC Emergency Management also has released its latest episode of "Prep Talk" podcast, which highlights the strategic plan as well as one its key priorities: talent retention and recruitment, and the agency’s goal for its workforce to reflect the communities it serves. The new episode featuring NYC Emergency Management Monitoring and Evaluation Program Manager Jimmy Deats and Deputy Director of Talent & Culture Veronica Geager.
