FDNY Holds Line of Duty Death Plaque Dedication Ceremony for Firefighter William P. Moon II

January 5, 2024

Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh will preside over a plaque dedication ceremony to honor Firefighter William “Billy” Moon II on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Rescue Company 2, 1815 Sterling Place, Brooklyn. The ceremony can be viewed live on the Department’s website at www.nyc.gov/FDNY or HERE.

Firefighter Moon, 47, was a 21-year veteran of the Department. Firefighter Moon was working on Monday, December 12 when he suffered a serious head injury during a training accident at his firehouse. When it became clear he would not survive his critical injuries, his family made the decision to donate his organs to save the lives of others.

Firefighter Moon’s donation saved the lives of five people, including two retired FDNY firefighters. Moon’s wife, Kristina, has become an advocate for organ donation, and the FDNY joins her in sharing the importance of this lifesaving decision and its far-reaching impact.

Firefighter Moon is the 1,159th member of the Department to make the Supreme Sacrifice. Firefighter Moon was an Islip resident and is survived by his wife, Kristina, and their two children, Brianne and Colin.
