Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh Presides at Graduation Ceremony For 135 Emergency Medical Technicians

Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh will preside over a graduation ceremony for Probationary Emergency Medical Technicians on Tuesday, January 31 at 10 a.m. at the Christian Cultural Center, 12020 Flatlands Ave, Brooklyn. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Department’s website, www.nyc.gov/FDNY.

“Emergency Medical Technicians are critical to keeping our city and its citizens safe,” said Commissioner Kavanagh. “They provide the greatest pre-hospital emergency medical care on every call, and we are thrilled to have 135 new graduates join the ranks of the busiest – and the best – Emergency Medical Service in the world.”

135 Probationary EMTs will graduate after training for 16 weeks at the EMS Academy. Training skills include CPR; patient medical and trauma assessments; oxygen and ventilation skills; management of hypotension and fractures; and spinal immobilization and emergency childbirth; and emergency vehicle operation.

The new EMTs will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
