152 Probationary EMTs and 24 Paramedics to Mark Graduation from EMS Academy
55 EMS Members Promoted to Various Ranks
FDNY will hold a graduation ceremony for 152 Probationary Emergency Medical Technicians and 24 Paramedics; and a promotion ceremony for 55 EMS Officers on Monday, March 14th - 10 a.m. at Christian Cultural Center 12020 Flatlands Ave, Brooklyn.
At the promotion portion of the ceremony, Deputy Assistant Chief Caesar Escobar will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of EMS Operations. In addition, one Division Chief will be promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief, 13 Lieutenants will be promoted to Captain, and 40 EMTs will be promoted to Lieutenant. The promoted members will be assigned to units throughout the city.
At the graduation portion of the ceremony, the Department will recognize new Paramedics and EMTs who missed their graduation ceremony earlier in the year because they were sent directly from the academy to the field due to the omicron surge. These graduates have already been responding to medical emergencies throughout the city for the last several weeks.
FDNY EMTs are trained for 13 weeks at the EMS Academy in all aspects of their job as Emergency Medical Technicians: CPR; patient medical and trauma assessments; oxygen and ventilation skills; management of hypotension and fractures; and spinal immobilization and emergency childbirth; and emergency vehicle operation.
Paramedics are trained to provide the highest level of pre-hospital care, and have extensive training in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology, as well as many critical lifesaving skills, such as: intravenous therapy and medication administration; EKG monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation; and advanced airway management.
WHO: Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh; Acting Chief of Department John Hodgens, Chief of EMS Lillian Bonsignore; other FDNY officials; and their families.
