FDNY, Kidde, & The FDNY Foundation Are #Sharingsafety with Eight Area Departments

May 10, 2023

The FDNY is #SharingSafety at a smoke detector distribution event on Thursday, May 11th at 11:30 a.m. at the EMS Academy at Fort Totten. The event can be viewed live on the Department’s website, www.nyc.gov/FDNY.

The smoke detectors are being donated by Kidde and the FDNY Foundation through the “Cause For Alarm” campaign. 4,500 alarms will be provided to eight departments located in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York, which will distribute and install the alarms throughout their communities. These departments serve low income, elderly, and at-risk populations.

70% of fire deaths occur in homes where there are no working smoke alarms. Having a working smoke detector doubles the chances of escaping a house fire safely. For more information and safety tips, visit fdnysmart.org.
