The FDNY will hold a graduation ceremony for 57 students from the Captain Vernon A. Richard High School for Fire and Life Safety on Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. at the FDNY Training Academy – Field House on Randall’s Island. The ceremony can be viewed live on the Department’s website at www.nyc.gov/FDNY.
The graduating students have successfully completed a rigorous academic program that emphasizes leadership and strength as core values along with the academic and physical skills necessary for emergency responders. Among this year’s graduates are two seniors who performed bystander CPR on the father of a friend, saving his life.
The FDNY High School, located at 400 Pennsylvania Avenue in Brooklyn, aim-s to attract its students to future careers with the FDNY, as Firefighters, Paramedics, or Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). To date, 80 FDNY Captain Vernon A. Richard High School graduates have been hired by the Department and currently serve as EMTs, Paramedics, and Firefighters.
