Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker Presides Over Graduation Ceremony for 289 Probationary Firefighters

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Commissioner Robert S. Tucker will preside over the graduation ceremony of 289 Probationary Firefighters on Friday, December 27th at 10 a.m. at Queens College Colden Auditorium - 153-49 Reeves Avenue. This graduating class of probationary Firefighters represents the increasing diversity of the Department, with people of color comprising 47% of the class. 23% identify as Hispanic, 21% as Black, 2% as Asian American, and 1% as Native Americans. The class includes 28 veterans from the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force. One Probationary Firefighter is a legacy, the child of an FDNY member who lost his life in the line of duty.

Over 18 weeks at the FDNY Training Academy, the probies trained in all aspects of Firefighting: fire suppression and medical response, hazardous materials, collapse and confined space rescue training, auto extrication, building inspections and procedures for engine and ladder operations. The probies will be assigned at firehouses throughout the city.
