FDNY to promote first female to the rank of Deputy Chief in Fire Operations
The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Commissioner Robert S. Tucker will preside over a promotion ceremony for 70 members of Fire Operations on Friday, February 14th at 10 a.m. at Queens College. The ceremony can be viewed live on the Department's website at www.nyc.gov/FDNY or HERE.
Four Battalion Chiefs will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief, 16 Captains will be promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief, 18 Lieutenants will be promoted to the rank of Captain, and 32 firefighters will be promoted to Lieutenant.
Among those being promoted is Michele Fitzsimmons, a 24-year veteran of the Department, who will be promoted to Deputy Chief. She will be the first ever female Deputy Chief and highest-ranking female in Fire Operations upon her promotion.
