The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will host a "Train the Trainer" class on Tuesday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m. at the Training Field on Fort Totten. The FDNY Robotics Unit and representatives from NIST will host City agencies and outside Departments to teach standardized emergency response drone and robot protocols. The FDNY and the NIST will provide demonstrations on piloting drones and ground robots in confined spaces, collapses, and other emergency situations.
The attendees will include the New York City Police Department, New York City Emergency Management, the Department of Homeland Security, Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, Suffolk County Fire Rescue, MTA Bridges and Tunnels and Construction and Development, Syosset Fire Department, and the Mineola Fire Department.
FDNY Robotics has leveraged Department of Homeland Security grant funds to pilot and integrate drone and robot platforms into FDNY Operations since 2014.
