On Sunday, December 18th, FDNY members from Rescue Company 4, Squad 288, Engine Company 263, Ladder Company 117, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Rescue Paramedics from Station 45 gathered at the quarters of Engine 263 and Ladder 117 to welcome recovering Dylan Cresta, a pediatric patient they extricated and treated from a complex motor vehicle incident on Saturday, November 19th, 2016.
“The only thing I cared about was getting the car off the child as quickly as possible. There was no better feeling than when we got him out and he was crying, I couldn’t be happier that he’s alive and doing well,” said FDNY Lieutenant John O’Connor of Ladder 117.
“A lot of us have children and we all tended to and treated Dylan like he was our own,” said Captain Patrick Flynn from Haz-Tac Battalion. “Once the vehicle was lifted, we got hands on right away and performed a quick head to toe trauma assessment, stabilized the injuries and initiated advanced medical interventions.
Capitan Flynn commended the great training and teamwork between FDNY members to successfully extricate Dylan. “There was great communication between all members involved. Despite all that was going on, jacks, cribbing, lifting we all got it done together.”
Domenica Cresta, Dylan’s mother reflected on FDNY’s response to the incident and the graciousness of the members for the reunion at Engine 263 and Ladder 117.
“[FDNY members] are an amazing group. We are so grateful that they were there to help Dylan, and keep us calm,” said Domenica. “It was a crazy day, we are so grateful for the fire department, first responders, and paramedics on scene. It was the scariest day of my life but I am so grateful that they were there, I can’t thank them enough, and we feel like we are family now. “
Vinny Cresta, Dylan’s father expressed deep gratitude for FDNY members gathering to support Dylan.
“This turned out to be amazing and more than what we expected,” said Vinny. “We couldn’t be more grateful and it is very emotional for us, but it is very positive that Dylan is doing well under the circumstances, and it could have much worse, it’s a different Christmas this year for us, and with different meaning, less about materialistic things this Christmas and more about giving back and being with family.”
