Hundreds of students from schools across New York City descended upon Rockefeller Center on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, to celebrate the 99th annual National Fire Prevention Week.
They interacted with FDNY members, saw safety demonstrations from the robotics and K-9 units, and were sworn in as junior firefighters and EMTs. They took an oath promising to practice fire safety and to share it with their friends and family.
"Education plays a huge role in the FDNY. We take it very seriously because we know it will save lives," FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said.
Throughout the year, the FDNY and the FDNY Foundation provide outreach programs to educate New Yorkers of all ages by promoting fire and life safety at thousands of locations and events in all five boroughs.
