The FDNY helps safeguard 2025 ball drop in Times Square

On New Year's Eve, FDNY members played a critical role in safeguarding the iconic Times Square ball drop celebration in New York City.

Collaborating closely with the NYPD, NYC Emergency Management, the Department of Transportation and other city agencies, the FDNY deployed hundreds of additional resources to support the festivities. These included EMS and fire operations, fire prevention, fire investigation, Haz-Mat and dispatch units—all underscoring the Department's unwavering commitment to protecting New Yorkers and visitors from around the world.

New Year's Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year for emergency medical calls. FDNY EMTs and paramedics were on site early, stationed strategically around Times Square to ensure a rapid response to any medical emergencies.

The FDNY's presence extended far beyond Times Square, with units citywide prepared to respond to emergencies during one of the Department's most demanding nights of the year.

Ahead of the Times Square event, FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra joined Mayor Eric Adams and leaders from several other city agencies on Monday, Dec. 30, for a security briefing and to discuss the safety preparations.
