FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker on Friday, April 18, 2025, announced the Bureau of Fire Prevention made an arrest for a series of arsons that happened in early March in Manhattan.
Elazar Hoch, 42, is accused of igniting five rubbish fires near Rivington Street in Manhattan. One of the fires extended to the back of the Mount Sinai-Behavioral Health Center.
FDNY's fire marshals used extensive video canvassing and interviews to locate the suspect, who was taken into custody on April 10. In connection with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Hoch is charged with one count of second-degree arson, two counts of third-degree arson and one count of fifth-degree arson.
"Arson is a serious and dangerous crime that puts lives and property at risk," FDNY Commissioner Tucker said. "I commend the FDNY Fire Marshals for their thorough investigative work. They respond all over our city 24/7 and are the best at what they do, and their dogged efforts keep our city safe. The FDNY remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting New Yorkers and holding accountable those who endanger our communities through acts of arson."
