FDNY holds promotion ceremony for battalion chiefs

December 11, 2024

The FDNY promoted its latest group of battalion chiefs at a ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at the Fire Academy on Randall's Island.

"We want to reward and acknowledge your hard work and dedication today, and we know that it's the culmination of years of hard work, leadership and learning," FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said. "We applaud your efforts to yourselves and our department better. We thank you for doing that, we thank your families and friends for supporting you through all of those efforts that got you here today. Studying for promotions in the FDNY is time-consuming. It's a hard thing to do. We know that, and we know you cannot be as successful as you are without the support of your friends and family."

Chief of Department John M. Esposito said: "Each of you brings decades of experience to the battalion chief rank, and that experience is crucial on the fireground. That experience will keep our firefighters safe. All of you have been through so many different scenarios and emergency situations, and that is what makes this department the great one that it is."

The newly promoted members represent more than 300 years of experience with the FDNY. They will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
