The FDNY held a promotion ceremony for fire officers on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island.
At the promotion ceremony, members were promoted to the following ranks: assistant chief, deputy assistant chief, deputy chief, captain, lieutenant, marine wiper and supervising fire marshal. In total, 97 members were promoted to new positions.
"I see years of experience and hard work and expertise. I see faces weathered by hard times and by good times, and I see a collective desire to serve," FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said at the promotion ceremony. "You are all leaders now, and you're all going to inspire generations of firefighters for years to come."
Chief of Department John Esposito said: "Without question, you all have worked hard to get here. Each of you represents the best of the FDNY, and you now step into critical roles that demand not only skill, but leadership and vision. Leadership is more than a rank or title. It is about the impact you have on those around you."
There were three legacy members among the newly promoted officers. They are the children of FDNY members who were killed in the line of duty or who have died from World Trade Center-related illnesses.
