FDNY promotes fire officers at ceremony in Queens

February 14, 2025

The FDNY promoted its latest group of fire officers Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, during a ceremony at Queens College.

"This moment is the culmination of many months of hard work and dedication," Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said. "Being a leader in the FDNY is a privilege and a responsibility, and it is a role I know each of you honors and cherishes."

Among the promoted members was Michele Fitzsimmons, a 24-year veteran of the FDNY who was promoted to the rank of deputy chief. She became the first-ever female deputy chief in fire operations in the Department's history and is the highest-ranking female firefighter.

Chief of Department John Esposito shared words of encouragement for the promoted members during his remarks, saying: "Our promotees are sitting in these seats today because they have spent hundreds of hours studying and preparing. They have prevailed in competitive examinations. You are sitting there today because you have earned these spots. Congratulations!"

At the ceremony, members were promoted to the rank of deputy chief, battalion chief, lieutenant and captain.
