On Thursday, May 25th, eleven FDNY EMS teams from across the five boroughs competed in FDNY’s annual 17th EMS Week Competition at FDNY Headquarters.
The competition provided an opportunity for EMTs and Paramedics to put their rigorous training into use for the scenario of a helicopter crash with multiple victims and bystanders in distress.
For the Basic Life Support (BLS) category, first place went to Station 49, Division 4 EMTs Frank Hunt, Connor Williams, and Erika Yellico. Second place went to Station 14, Division 2 EMTs Roy Zuniga, Jerry Granillo, Christopher Mott, and third place went to Station 16, Division 1 EMTs Robert Vales, Charles Laudenslager, and EMT Michael Demiro.
For Advanced Life Support (ALS), first place went to Station 27, Division 2 Paramedics Randy Li, Jonathan Rivera, and Anthony Sanchez. Second place went to Lieutenant Jennifer Ison and Paramedics David Mark and Shamel Edge of Station 49 and Division 4. Third place went to Station 8, Division 1 Paramedics Jonathan Kleisner, Xiaotian Bao, and Dustin Carter.
Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro commended the members in always rising to the occasion in answering the call for help and wished the participants continued success and safety in the field.
