On Wednesday, April 10, 77 FDNY members were promoted to new ranks in the Department at a ceremony at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
“These officers and firefighters have bravely responded to countless calls throughout their careers, and, in their new ranks, will continue to demonstrate their commitment to keeping New Yorkers safe, said Commissioner Nigro. “The considerable experience of this group will shape the direction of the FDNY and improve the safety, training and response of our members for years to come.”
At the ceremony, 5 Deputy Chiefs were promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief, 16 Captains were promoted to Battalion Chief, 25 Lieutenants were promoted to Captain, and 31 Firefighters were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
“My favorite part of my job is having the ability to help and mentor people. I see the good that the Department does for the citizens and visitors of this city on a daily basis and I look forward to continuing to help the Department move forward,” said FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Michael Ajello.
“Our mission is too great for anyone to do it alone – and all of you in your new leadership roles will be so important to responding and protecting this city,” said Chief of Department John Sudnik.
The newly promoted members will be assigned to various units throughout the city.
“I joined this Department because I was looking for a challenge. This job gives me the opportunity to better myself and grow as a person,” said FDNY Lieutenant Darius Dorsett. “Every day is different so you always have to be ready. I want to inspire others to join and show them that with hard work anyone can do this.”
