FDNY Hosts Employee Recognition Ceremony

May 18, 2018

On Friday, May 18th, FDNY hosted its annual 2018 employee recognition ceremony at headquarters in Brooklyn.

Over 300 employees were recognized for their dedicated service to the FDNY and the City of New York. Recognition was also provided to employees who have earned a qualifying diploma during non-working hours in 2017.

“FDNY employees are all dedicated to the mission of keeping New Yorkers safe,” said Fire Commissioner Nigro. “Their unwavering service to the Department and City of New York is one of the reasons why we are the most regarded and respected Fire Department in the world.”

FDNY Supervising Fire Alarm Dispatcher Gary Greenbaum was honored at the ceremony for his 41 years of service to the FDNY and five boroughs.

“When the Department receives an alarm from the public, I’m the one that sends the Engines,” said Supervising Fire Alarm Dispatcher Greenbaum. “This is a great job and I love helping the public and working with the city, it’s in the family, my father was recognized by the FDNY as an honorary Deputy Chief, and my son is a Firefighter in Eastchester, New York.”

FDNY Chief Inspector Richard Shaw has been keeping the public and FDNY members safe for the past 25 years.

“We save lives, we make sure sprinklers are in order, control illegal storage, and reduce emergencies throughout the five boroughs,” said FDNY Chief Inspector Richard Shaw. “When I was growing up my parents used to say prevention is better than a cure, so I am glad that I can go to work every day and prevent lives from being lost.”

Sheryl Taitt, Administrative Manager has been with the FDNY for 30 years, ensuring Department members receive their benefits in a timely manner.

“The members of this Department have a very stressful job and my job is to make their lives just a little bit easier,” said FDNY Administrative Manager Taitt. “I make sure there are no problems and try to convey to the members a sense of comfort that will resolve any issues they are having. This job gives me a great sense of joy and gratitude.”
