FDNY Holds Graduation Ceremony for Probationary Fire Protection Inspectors

On June 25, 2019, FDNY Chief of Staff Elizabeth Cascio presided at the graduation ceremony of 19 Probationary Fire Protection Inspectors at FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn.

“These newly appointed Probationary Fire Protection Inspectors are the first line of defense in preventing fires across the five boroughs, keeping New Yorkers and city visitors safe,” said FDNY Chief of Staff Elizabeth Cascio.

Probationary Fire Protection Inspectors receive more than one hundred hours of New York State Peace Officer training and have been schooled in fire protection enforcement activities which entail the issuance of violations, FDNY Summonses and serving NYS Criminal Court Summonses.

“In my opinion, working for an organization like the FDNY is a great achievement and I am truly honored. This is a fantastic job, and the training I received will help me make a difference,” said Fire Protection Inspector and class Valedictorian Christopher Savino.

After receiving basic training, the new Inspectors will be assigned to several units within the Bureau of Fire Prevention, including District Officers, Fire Suppression Units, the Bulk Fuel Safety Unit, and the Hazardous Cargo Inspection Unit. Fire Protection Inspectors identify, monitor, and inspect various locations, conditions or equipment that may pose a fire safety hazard to life and property.

“I decided to join the Department because I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself,” said Fire Protection Inspector, Monique Notice. “I wanted to protect and serve the people of New York City because it is my home. I want them to feel safe and now I will have an opportunity to do that.”

“Being a member of Fire Prevention; you are going to make a profound impact in the lives of millions of New Yorkers,” said Chief of Fire Prevention Joseph Jardin. “The FDNY patch you proudly wear on your arm is a symbol of your commitment to protecting others and saving lives.”
