FDNY will celebrate the opening of Squad Company 8 with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at 3730 Victory Blvd, Staten Island.
Squad 8 went into service in December 2018, after the firefighters underwent three months of training in handling hazardous materials and performing technical rescues. Squad Company 8 will respond to fires and emergencies throughout Staten Island.
A Squad Company encompasses the tasks of engines, ladders, and rescue companies. Squad 8 will carry specialized equipment and have the ability to respond to various emergencies, such as fires, high angle rescues, building collapses, confined space rescues, transportation accidents, and hazardous material emergencies.
