FDNY Second Annual Citywide Open House Event

May 12, 2016

On Saturday, May 14th, the FDNY will host the second annual citywide open house program.  More than 200 Firehouses and EMS Stations will open their doors to the public from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro will be attending Open House events at EMS Station 55 in the Bronx and Engine Company 22 and Ladder Company 13 in Manhattan (times and addresses below).

New Yorkers can find the nearest location and time here.

“In 2015, FDNY members celebrated our 150th Anniversary with the people they bravely serve, welcoming more than 27,000 New Yorkers into the Department’s Firehouses and EMS Stations for the first time ever,” said Fire Commissioner Nigro.  “On Saturday May 14, we will once again welcome New Yorkers into our facilities to spread fire and life safety messages and to show young men and women the careers available in the FDNY.”

Throughout the day Firefighters, Paramedics and EMTs will be educating the public about fire and life safety, conducting demonstrations, discussing careers within the Department, and offering tours of FDNY Engines, Ladder Trucks and Ambulances.  New Yorkers will have the opportunity to schedule a free smoke/carbon monoxide alarm installation through #GetAlarmedNYC.  FDNY members will also be giving away more than 30,000 items including fire safety coloring books and fire helmets for children.

Each location will be open for a two hour window, listed on the FDNY website.  Throughout the celebration, all FDNY units will remain on call to respond to fires and medical emergencies.  In 2015, FDNY had its busiest year ever, responding to more than 1.7 million incidents.
