 DOC Welcomes 84 New Correction Officers 

On Oct. 18, DOC Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie presided over a graduation, appointee and promotion ceremony at Lehman College in the Bronx. 

During the ceremony, the Department welcomed 84 new Correction Officers into its ranks. For the past 13-weeks, these new recruits have trained at NYPD’s state-of-the-art Academy in College Point as DOC continues its public safety partnership with the NYPD. 

Under the guidance of veteran Field Training Officers, these new bold Officers will now receive an additional eight weeks of field training inside of New York City’s jails where they will obtain critical hands-on experience.

“To our newest officers: As you look to the future, I urge you to recognize that today is the day of your legacy as a member of service. Leaving a legacy is about more than yourself, it's about learning from your past and creating a positive future for those who come after you. I urge you to consider your legacy each and every day you don your uniform and affix your shield,” the Commissioner said. “I speak for every member of this Department when I say that we are excited to welcome you, we are here to support you, and we will shoulder the burden of this work with you. You are now a part of our legacy and our future. You will never be alone.”

The special ceremony also featured the swearing-in and appointment of members of the Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Team: Deputy Commissioner of the Legal Division/General Counsel James Conroy, Deputy Commissioner of Custody Management, Classification and Facility Operations Eric M. Taylor and Associate Commissioner of Facility Operations Ned McCormick. 

With Taylor’s appointment, the Department also celebrated the return of the former Chief of Department, who also has a facility on Rikers Island named in his honor. 

Three veteran members of The Boldest, Acting Wardens Chester, Miller and Rothwell, were also promoted to Wardens. 

In addition, the Commissioner honored Captain Ferramosca and Officer Frazier for their many years of dedicated service to the Department.
