DOC Swears In New Class of Recruit Officers

This latest class of Recruit Officers is the third and largest to be sworn in this year.

One hundred and thirteen New Yorkers boldly recited the oath of service on Dec. 19 to officially become NYCDOC Recruit Officers. This latest class is the third and largest that the Department has sworn-in this year.

Throughout the next 13 weeks, these new Recruit Officers will train at NYPD’s state-of-the-art Academy. Upon completion of the Correction Academy, the Recruits will then be sworn-in as Correction Officers and proceed to complete an eight-week field training program on Rikers Island under the guidance of veteran Officers.

This immersive training model is how DOC is instilling proper correctional practices and making its jails safer for members of service, civilian staff, and people in custody.

Throughout the next 13 weeks, these new Recruit Officers will train at NYPD’s state-of-the-art Academy in College Point.

“I am incredibly proud to welcome in the newest members of the Boldest Family. Over the next 13 weeks, these new Recruits will take part in a rigorous training program that will support them in deescalating tense moments, adhering to correctional best practices, and serving the needs of the people in our care,” said Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie. “Staff is our most important resource, and they will continue to receive guidance under the direction of our expert instructors both now and throughout their career. I am truly grateful to the brave and bold men and women for answering our call to service and for their unwavering dedication to the safety of our city.”
