 Recruit Officer Makes History at Graduation Ceremony

Congratulations to DOC Recruit Officer Forestal. On Oct. 18, he made Department history as the first Officer to receive both our Valedictorian and Highest Firearms Proficiency honors.   

Forestal, who is also the first Correction Officer in his family, noted that he joined The Boldest to work in a career where he is making a difference every day.   

“This career is about having courage, showing compassion and I knew I wanted to work for this Department because I want to help others,” he explained. 

To attain both accolades, the Squad Leader also noted that he studied at home during his free time and followed the advice of our Division of Training and Development instructors.   

“Training at the Academy was inspiring and really a good experience. Learning from the instructors, being able to always ask them questions and having their support this whole time was also very helpful,” he added. “Training at the gun range is what I enjoyed the most. Before training here, I didn’t realize that there was such a unique science to shooting and it’s much more in-depth and professional than I could have ever imagined. Our instructors were amazing. They taught us form and accuracy and they motivated us consistently to perform at our best.”
