NEW YORK – March 3, 2025 – Following the Academy Awards, the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment congratulates the NYC filmmakers and performers recognized during the current awards show season, which began with the Gotham Awards in December and will culminate with the American Cinema Eddie Awards on March 14. 21 TV productions and six film productions, classified as ‘Made in NY’ based on 75% of production taking place in NYC, received nominations, while 49 awards have been received thus far. Neon’s Anora is the first ‘Made in NY’ production to win the Academy Award for Best Picture in 10 years, since 2014’s Birdman. HBO’s The Penguin is the recipient of 12 awards while Saturday Night Live, which celebrated 50 seasons in 2025, received seven.

“Congratulations to the casts and crews of all 27 ‘Made in NY’ film & TV productions that received wins or nominations during this awards show season,” said Commissioner of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, Pat Swinney Kaufman. “Anora’s win for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, marking the first time in 10 years that a ‘Made in NY’ production has won the prestigious honor, along with The Penguin’s multiple wins across different Guild Awards, speaks to our office’s ongoing efforts to make NYC a “City of Yes” in terms of production and underscores the local creative talent that live and work here.”

NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Congratulates ‘Made in NY’ Winners and Nominees of Current Awards Show Season

This celebration comes as NYC takes steps to support the film/TV industry and expand the city’s reputation as a global production hub. Expanded production infrastructure, the recent proposed extension to the New York State Film Tax Credit, and this administration’s commitment to making NYC a ‘City of Yes’ in terms of film production, offer compelling location options and incentives for those who want to film in NYC. According to a report from 2021, the industry is responsible for generating $82 billion in economic activity and supporting 185,000 jobs.
