July 22, 2015 - Film festivals and outdoor screenings will showcase films with an international perspective.
Outdoor Cinema at Socrates Sculpture Park
This summer Film Forum and Socrates Sculpture Park present the park’s Outdoor Cinema film festival: several weeks of international movies shown under the stars, Wednesday evenings, through August 19. Now celebrating its 17th year, the festival celebrates the cultural diversity of Queens, where more than 135 languages are spoken, representing more than 120 countries. It features open-air cinema, music, dance, and food, held in the five-acre waterfront park in Long Island City, Queens. All films are presented in their original language with English subtitles and, for the first time this year, every film will be projected onto a 40-foot wide screen. The Asian American International Film Festival is devoted to films by and about Asians and Asian Americans. The festival, which takes place from July 23 to August 1, strives to create a setting where artists, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts can develop understanding of the multiple complexities of the Asian and Asian American experience.
