Retirement Benefits
Traffic Agents are eligible for pensions under the 63/10 Plan. Participants in the 63/10 Plan who have 10 or more years of credited service, at least two years of which are membership service, are eligible to receive a service retirement benefit at age 63. In addition, you may contribute to one of the following plans:
- 457 - This plan is also known as Deferred Compensation. The percentage deducted from the member's wages is determined by the member and may range anywhere from 1% to 25%. Loan option is available with this pension plan. Early withdrawal penalties do apply.
- 401K - Similar in structure to the "457" plan. A loan option is available with this pension plan.
Veterans Benefits
Federal and state laws allow members to purchase service credit for time spent in U.S. Military service – the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and Article 20 of the New York State Retirement and Social Security Law (RSSL), respectively. Under USERRA, the cost is the equivalent of the contributions required if you had never left for military service. Under Article 20, the cost is 6% times the number of years of military service being purchased times the salary you earned during the 12 months prior to the date of your application. No interest is charged on military buy-back.

SUPERVISORY RANK
Associate Traffic Enforcement Agent I
Promotion based on merit
Directs and coordinates in an assigned area, ensures that discipline procedures and actions are taken, mentors and provides training, and prepares specialized reports and correspondence. Promotion is based on a promotional civil service exam.
Associate Traffic Enforcement Agent II
Promotion based on merit
In addition to Level I and II supervisory duties: directs and coordinates in an assigned area, ensures that discipline procedures and actions are taken, mentors and provides training, and prepares specialized reports and correspondence. Promotion is based on merit and years of assignment to level II.
Associate Traffic Enforcement Agent III
Promotion based on merit
In addition to Level I and II supervisory duties: directs and coordinates in an assigned area, ensures that discipline procedures and actions are taken, mentors and provides training, and prepares specialized reports and correspondence. Promotion is based on merit and years of assignment to level II.
NON-SUPERVISORY RANK
TEA Level III
In addition to Level I and Level II responsibilities, required to remove or affix restraining/immobilizing devices to scofflaw –owned vehicles. TEA Level III may be required to operate a tow truck to remove illegally parked vehicles which are impeding traffic. A tow truck operator's endorsement is required for this position.
TEA Level IV
In addition to Level I, II, and III, responsibilities, ensures that on-street construction, manhole activity or special events do not impact upon traffic and pedestrian flow. May issue summonses, notify other agencies, and close down work sites.
