Beginning today, the New York City Police Department is debuting “Color of The Day,” a new podcast hosted by Chief of Transportation Kim Royster. The first episode features an interview with Representative Val B. Demings of Florida, who is a former police chief of Orlando.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Chief Royster and Rep. Demings touch on such important topics as women in power, their mutual background in law enforcement, leadership, integrity, and the factors that continue motivating them in groundbreaking careers of public service.
The following exchange is just one example:
Chief Royster: “I always like to speak to the young community, young people. Their voices matter in a lot of things that are being spoken about now. Young people are getting more involved. They have come out in droves talking about how they want change. And some of the words that I've heard them say is `Can't stop, won't stop.’ They will continue to push forward until they see change. You've coined the phrase, ‘Never tire.’ What does, `Never tire,’ mean?
Rep. Demings: “You know, and I am so inspired by John Lewis, 17 years old when he first got involved in the Civil Rights movement. Dr. King was 26 years old. Let's think about all that Dr. King has done in his lifetime. He died at the age of 39. And so, young people have always been involved in helping to make this nation a great nation. They've always been out there doing what they could, whether using their voices, or their feet, their influence. And so, the joy of it all is that it's so good to see that young people are still the wind beneath our wings. `Never tire,’ means that we still have so much work to do if we're going to become that more, perfect union.”
The Police Department is excited about its latest NYPD podcast venture. Listen to the promotions on iHeart Radio. You can find “Color of the Day” wherever you get your podcasts.
“Color of the Day” is produced by Executive Digital Producer Kenzie De Laine and the Deputy Commissioner of Strategic Communications Richard Esposito. “Color of the Day,” is produced in collaboration with the New York City Police Foundation and iHeart Media.
