NYPD Unveils New Crime Stoppers Truck

New York City Police Foundation Helps Expand Reach of Successful Crime-Fighting Program
The NYPD and the New York City Police Foundation unveiled today for Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards for anonymous information that leads to the arrest and indictment of violent felons, a new vehicle to expand the reach of the program's message throughout the five boroughs. Secured through funding from the New York City Police Foundation, the new Crime Stoppers truck is another tool for the NYPD to use to help make New York City a safer place for everyone.
Crime Stoppers' 1-800-577-TIPS hotline, nypdcrimestoppers.com, and social media channels will be prominently displayed on several large LED screens. The truck will have the capability to reach each and every neighborhood throughout New York City.
"The Crime Stoppers program, and this new vehicle dedicated to our mission of fighting crime and keeping people safe, are helping the NYPD leverage the power of Neighborhood Policing to reduce violence and disorder by building trust and strengthening relationships in all the communities we serve," Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill said. "I thank the New York City Police Foundation for its unwavering support of the men and women of the NYPD and our shared goal of making the safest large city in America even safer."

"Just as the NYPD has evolved over time in the way they keep New Yorkers safe, the Crime Stoppers program, too, has evolved. We are very proud to continue to fund innovative tools like this new technologically advanced Crime Stoppers truck and to making sure that New York City's finest have what they need to be even closer to the communities they serve."
The Crime Stoppers Program, a public-private partnership, which is funded and supported by the New York City Police Foundation, continues to successfully focus on solving violent crimes in New York City. Crime Stoppers has aided in solving 1,526 murders and attempted murders, 2,186 robberies, and has paid out over $2.4 million dollars in rewards.
Crime Stoppers has been an invaluable crime-fighting tool since the program's inception in 1983. Dedicated NYPD detectives assigned to the Crime Stoppers Unit are available 24/7 to receive and assess tips. They assess approximately 22,000 calls on the tip hotline on average every year. Phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and IP addresses are never captured, tracked, or saved, and the only information disseminated through the proper investigative channels is crime and suspect information.

Information providers can receive up to $2,500 for a tip that leads to an arrest and indictment (Reward amount based upon New York City Police Foundation committee review). The Crime Stoppers Program will never ask an information provider for their name, will not record calls, will not trace tips submitted via telephone or online. Information providers will not have to make a statement to police and will not appear in court.
