Remarks as prepared for Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison
Good evening, I'm here with Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen, Commanding Officer, Patrol Borough Bronx, Erik Hernandez, Commanding Officer, 47th Precinct, Timothy McCormack, Commanding Officer, Detective Borough Bronx.
Please understand that at this time the investigation is in its preliminary phase and the information is subject to change.
Tonight, at approximately 7:50 P.M., 47 precinct anti-crime officers were conducting routine patrol in plain clothes, on White Plains Rd, when they heard 3 to 5 gunshots. The Officers exit their vehicle and observed a male subject with a silver firearm on White Plains Road between Saint Ouen St. and Cranford Avenue. The officers yelled, "Police, Don't Move. Drop the gun". The male subject then pointed his firearm at the officers and one of the officers discharges 1 round, striking the subject in the torso.
The subject then fled on foot, southbound on White Plains Road, then continued eastbound on Cranford Avenue, where the subject ran approximately 200 feet and collapsed and was apprehended by the officers involved. The Sergeant then rendered aid to the subject and requested an ambulance.
We later discovered a male shot in the arm, on White Plains Road. The victim is believed to have been involved in a dispute with the subject on White Plains Road, prior to the police shooting incident.
The shooting victim is in critical condition at Jacobi hospital. The subject is at Jacobi hospital in stable condition. The officers are at Montefiore North Hospital being treated for Tinnitus.
The subject's firearm, a silver revolver, was recovered next to him.
