New York City Police Department today announced street closures during the Macy's Annual Fireworks Display over the East River. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 beginning at about 9:20 p.m. and ending at 9:50 p.m. The Department reminds spectators that no large backpacks, large coolers, lawn chairs, lawn blankets, or alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the FDR Drive viewing area. All restricted items are subject to search and seizure.
Drivers are advised to use public transportation and avoid the following locations between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m.

FLYOVER
In addition to the fireworks, at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday evening, NYPD Aviation Unit helicopters will fly over the East River between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Ed Koch Bridge.
MEDIA PARKING
Beginning at 1 p.m., media parking for "Broadcast Vehicles Only" will be allowed to stage on the south side of 48th Avenue at Center Blvd. All trucks must be in the staging area by 1 p.m. An NYPD DCPI rep will then direct the trucks to park at a designated position for the show after security screening is complete. No other vehicles are permitted. Members of the media are reminded that NYPD press credentials must be worn fully exposed at all times when the bearer is at or within police lines.
